Why don’t we screen annually for cancer in more areas?
For instance, women get pelvic exams annually and breast exams annually. Why don’t we screen for more? Shouldn’t men be screened for testicular cancer yearly? From what i’ve seen we only screen for things after symptoms occur and sometimes not even then, but isn’t it true that a lot of cancer has no symptoms? It’s just that there are so many different types of cancer and we only have preventative measures for so few. It’s just sad and scary how many people will end up dying from cancer, wouldn’t it help if we were more proactive in detecting these cancers? Is there even such a test for early cancer in areas like brain, liver, panceas etc. ? Maybe it’s not realistic to have an exam for every single cancer known to man, but wouldn’t it help if we had more screenings for more popular cancers? More than we have now?
We only have screening exams for breast, prostate, cervical and colon cancers. There are no screening exams for other cancers. Testicular cancer is very uncommon with 8,000-10,000 cases each year. Screening does not change overall survival rates and it is obvious something is wrong when you get it. Breast, prostate and colon are among the most common cancers.
